After work I made my towards the Birthright office for my biweekly language class. En route I passed by drained man-made lake that had been converted into an ice rink. Either the warm weather had melted the ice or everyone was at work because there were no ice-skaters.

I also passed by MTV Cube Café. I actually go in here sometimes for a meal, food is cheap and there are pictures on the wall of American and Armenian pop stars. Café's in Yerevan are almost just restaurants, the only difference is that the Cafés all have an identical and extremely long menu. There are always sandwiches, pizzas, "salads", the three Armenian beers, a long list of liqueur, maybe some ice cream, and cigarettes.

Before I got to the Birthright office, I stopped by this little stand off the side of the sidewalk that has three women making and selling pastries. The ones on the left are crisp, flakey and filled with cheese. the ones in the middle are deep-friend, doughy and filled with potatoes. I got one of the cheese ones, it was fresh from the oven.

Finally, I got to Birthright in time for my 5:30 language class!

Birthright is the organization that arranges my homestay, language classes, takes us on weekly excursions, and funds my airline ticket. Armenia Volunteer Corps is the organization that arranges my volunteer placement. Inside the office, the lines between organizations blur a little bit.
