On top of the road was the 11th century Amberd fortress (foreground) and church (background).

There were these berries up there. I'll let Mary explain about them.


They said that my shirt matched the background of the Armenian hills. You can judge for yourself.

The fortress was old and fallen apart. We climbed around it. That is Hasmik in the back, Armen in the front, two of my Birthright cohorts. They like to take photos and both have their cameras in hand.

It was a long way down from the fortress down. Good for defending and view.

Here is the church, sitting alone on the mountains.


There were a pair of cyclists that we ran into. They were from Estonia and were doing a 10-day cycling trip around Armenia, they were spending this night up on the mountain. You can barely see one behind the bush leaning on a tractor.
