(Sound Sample - Metro Station and Escalator)

Then the shops finally stop and you get to the metro. They way it works is you go up to that booth that is on the left and you buy a token for 50 dram about 15 cents. Then you put it in one of the machines on the right and you go wait for your train to arrive. Most stations are underground, so you would take the escalator down. For this one, it is above ground so you take the escalator up

The tokens are about the size of a quarter and you can see the Sasuntsi Davit picture on one side.

One more thing to note, being a post-soviet country, Armenia doesn't have the same respect for free-speach and press freedoms that I am used to in America. And after I took the top picture on this page, that cop you see coming out of the door on the center-left got upset at me, made me stop taking pictures and show him all the pictures I had on my camera. I think it was for some sort of security reasons. As much as my American free-speach-loving sensibilities made me want to sneak some extra pictures without them knowing, I decided that was not culturally respectful or appropriate. So I didn't take any more pictures of the metro. Thus on the next page, all the pictures are ones I found on the internet that other people took! I'm not the only one!

And even though they didn't let me take any photos there, they did let this Armenian pop diva shoot her video in the main downtown station by Republic Squaure. So there must not be that many security concerns!
