There is a piece of thread that sits in laps that out it leads of the door past the punk rock music of the 80s, Sitionalist International in france, through the beats in san francisco, the surrealists in europe back to the dadas and the readymades of the early part of the last century. I used to want to be a surrealist, then an absurdists, until I realized that it was all the same thing, just stretched through time. I tried to map out the histroy of anarchist art that sat discretely in the background (mostly) of the movements that came and went through the art galleries of the 20th century. I like to think that my music is political, but not overtly activistic. For me it feel comfortable bordering the line between outside and inside, playing with that border and challenging what it means.
The original name of this site was thesurrealists.com - after this song. But I couldn't get that and now I'm glad, Absurdism feels a lot more playful and accessible.
(those are some surrealist games that Hunter and Catherine are playing in the middle section. it is easy to play. get a friend and one of you comes up with a question and without hearing what the question is, the other person comes up with an answer. then the person with the question says their question and the person with the answer says their answer. best game ever!)
