The Universe
Instrumental Version
by Jeremy Dalmas
from The Sweet Science, 2005
posted 3/10/08

One in a long series of songs bridging the two strands of my university education: Astrophysics and Music. This little spaceship originally had vocals, but I took them out for this post because I think that it works better this way. Check out The Stars, My Destination and We Don't Speak Their Language to check out a couple other astrophysically themed songs.

Each one of those little splotches of color is a whole galaxy of its own. If you point your telescope at any bit of the sky and look at it with a high enough magnification and exposure time, you see thousands of them swimming around in the ether of space like creatures in a drop of water under the lens of a microscope.

Roll over the image to see a magnification of the upper left-hand corner.

The sound journal is intended to be a showcase of sounds and songs, (usually) posted early every Tuesday morning. If you have a piece of music you have recorded, a radio show that you've done, a weird song that your cat sings, a story you want to read, or any tidbit of sound that you have found particularly of note, drop us a line. We would love to share it.
