Molly Molasses and The Second Amendment present:
The Three of Us

A couple months ago, little Molly Molasses stumbled upon a contest on the Internet. NPR superstar This American Life was having a little competition! They had just run a story about a heartbroken, normally non-musical woman who composed her first song to deal with a recent breakup. They invited listeners to reinterpret or remix the song, adding their own unique flare. Miss Molasses and I, wanting a fresh take, ignored the MP3 they offered and learned the song straight from the sheet music. We noted a tin-pan-alley, show-tuney vein running through the piece and responded accordingly. After building the time machine we went straight to 1927 and straight to West 28th Street. Following a stop at the local speakeasy, we committed the song to wax, threw the record in a box, smashed a whole in the concrete, sealed the sidewalk and came back to 2007. Thankfully in the intervening 80 years the New York MTA had not discovered our little gem. We postmarked the box to the NPR studios in Chicago, and hoped for the best.
After weeks of silence, This American Life decided to give us a Thanksgiving treat! Two of the five judges, after sifting through 129 submissions, saw through the fog of time and saw fit to celebrate our achievement. Joe McGinty, one of the songwriters, gave us an honorable mention. Thanks Joe! And Julia Greenberg, the songs original singer liked us the best of all. You're awesome Julia! As a prize, we get an all-expense paid trip to Bombay where we will score Bipasha Basu's latest star-vehicle! Watch out South Asia!
